During Tuesday’s home victory, OF Oneil Cruz provided all the offense Pittsburgh would need with a fifth-inning two-run blast. All-Star P Braxton Ashcraft (13-5) lasted eight innings and allowed just five hits to earn the win for the Pirates, who improved to 62-66 overall.
The Pirates will counter with reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes (9-11 3.88 ERA) in the series finale. Through 134 plus innings, Skenes ranks eighth in the majors with 166 strikeouts and owns a solid 1.12 WHIP.
