Detroit finished the regular season 87–75 and was coming off a 2-1 series win over Cleveland in the wild card round. The Tigers are getting steady production from Riley Greene and Carpenter, who have combined for four RBI in the postseason.

Tarik Skubal starts Game 2 after a dominant performance in his last outing in the wild-card series, striking out 14 over 7.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .120 against him in the postseason. The left-hander’s command and ability to make hitters swing and miss make him Detroit’s ace.
