The Athletics have dropped seven of their previous 11 games and are clinging to a half-game lead for first place over the Mariners. During Tuesday’s home loss, the Athletics went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. SP Gage Jump (0-1) gave up four runs in five innings and took the loss for the Athletics (27-28), who fell to 10-14 at home.

The Athletics will give the nod to veteran left-hander Jeffrey Springs (3-5 4.11 ERA) on Wednesday. Last time out, Springs (6.1 IP) walked three batters and surrendered three long balls during a 7-3 road loss against San Diego.
