However, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr is not ready to see his squad sail off into the sunset.
Plenty of the optimism heading into the season is the pairing of two-time MVP Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. The Warriors re-signed talented F Jonathan Kuminga to a two-year deal and are hoping newly signed F/C Al Horford can find the fountain of youth.
Lakers Preview
The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off a 50-win season and were eliminated by Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs. The Lakers sent shock waves around the NBA at last year’s trade deadline, when they shipped F/C Anthony Davis to Dallas in exchange for five-time All-Star Luke Doncic (28.2 ppg). Reports are that Doncic (8.2 apg) is in the best shape of his career and he will be the primary play making option.
Forty year old LeBron James will start the season on the sideline with a right side injury and he is no longer reliable on defense. Austin Reaves is an intriguing third-scoring option, but is another liability on the defensive end of the floor. The Lakers are hoping that free agent C Deandre Ayton will play with more effort than he has shown in the last couple of seasons.

Warriors vs Lakers Pick
Golden State G/F Jimmy Butler is dealing with an ankle issue and is expected to be ready for this game. The Warriors ranked seventh in defensive efficiency last year and could be even better on that end of the floor, while the Lakers figure to be a mess defensively.
