Los Angeles Lakers Preview

Austin Reaves has taken on the main scoring and playmaking duties, averaging 35.8 points and 8.5 assists through four games. Deandre Ayton adds 15.8 points and 9.3 rebounds, and Rui Hachimura scores 16.5 points on 63% shooting.

Los Angeles is short-handed with Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Marcus Smart, Gabe Vincent, and Maxi Kleber all out. The Lakers have scored at least 116 points in three of the last four games, but continue to turn the ball over too often, averaging more than 17 per game. The Lakers’ shooting has kept them in games, especially on the road, where they have yet to lose.

Memphis Grizzlies Preview

Memphis ranks seventh in the West and is averaging 122.0 points while giving up 122.8 points per game. Ja Morant leads in scoring and assists, averaging 22.3 points and 6.5 assists per game and is shooting 96% from the free-throw line. Jaren Jackson Jr. averages 17.5 points and nearly two blocks a night. Forward Santi Aldama contributes 10.3 points and a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game.

Cedric Coward has been a surprise early in the season, scoring 16.5 points per game and shooting almost 70% from the field, including 64% from three-point range. The Grizzlies have alternated wins and losses, but played their best basketball in a close road win at Phoenix, where they held the Suns under 45% shooting.
