Minnesota Timberwolves vs Cleveland Cavaliers Picks and Predictions for Monday October 26 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/26/2026, 12:00 AM ET

Minnesota has spent the first week making other teams look pretty bad. The Timberwolves went into Miami and won by 25, then went to Orlando and won by 22. Cleveland, meanwhile, needed a late push to get past Brooklyn after blowing a huge lead in Philadelphia earlier in the week. So why am I not rushing to take Minnesota? The schedule. The Timberwolves have Toronto on Sunday night, then they’re getting on a plane for Cleveland. The Cavaliers get to sit home and wait for them. That’s a pretty important difference when the teams are otherwise fairly close.

Minnesota visits Cleveland at Rocket Arena on Monday, October 26, 2026, with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM ET. A dependable consensus spread and total haven’t been established, so I’m looking at Cleveland -3.5 or better and Over 222.5 or lower. Those are betting thresholds, not confirmed sportsbook lines. Minnesota Timberwolves Have Been Taking Care of Business

Minnesota is 2-0 heading into Sunday’s Toronto game, and neither victory was particularly close. The Timberwolves opened with a 131-106 win at Miami before beating Orlando 115-93. That’s 123 points scored and 99.5 allowed per game. They also went 2-0 on the road, which makes this upcoming trip less intimidating than it might look. The Orlando game was especially impressive because Minnesota didn’t need a big shooting night from Anthony Edwards. He struggled from the field, and the Timberwolves still won by 22. That tells me there’s more to this offense than one guy getting hot.

Minnesota has been winning the rebounding battle in a big way. Through two games, the Timberwolves averaged 56.5 rebounds, including 19.5 offensive boards. Nineteen and a half! You don’t need to shoot particularly well when you’re getting that many extra chances. Their defense has been just as impressive, allowing opponents very little on the glass. Cleveland has had trouble taking care of the basketball, though, and that’s where Minnesota could cause some problems. If the Timberwolves are getting extra possessions through offensive rebounds while Cleveland is giving the ball away, the rest advantage might not mean much.

Edwards is the obvious offensive threat, and Rudy Gobert has been doing the dirty work on the glass. LaMelo Ball gives Minnesota another way to create shots, which takes some pressure off Edwards. Donte DiVincenzo remains out with an Achilles injury, and that costs the Timberwolves some perimeter depth. The other thing to watch is Sunday’s Toronto game. If Minnesota has to play its starters heavy minutes, Monday becomes a much tougher assignment. If the Timberwolves get another comfortable win and can spread the minutes around, I’d feel considerably better about their chances in Cleveland.

Cleveland Cavaliers Need to Finish Games Better

Cleveland is 1-1 after losing 114-106 in Philadelphia and beating Brooklyn 125-121 on Saturday. That Brooklyn score looks fine until you see how the game developed. The Cavaliers gave up 41 points in the fourth quarter and nearly let the Nets steal it. The Philadelphia loss was worse in a different way. Cleveland built a 29-point lead and somehow managed to lose by eight. That’s two games where the Cavaliers have had trouble putting an opponent away. They’ve scored 115.5 points per game while allowing 117.5, and those defensive lapses are getting expensive.

The Cavaliers have been much less careful with the ball than Minnesota. Their turnover rate is among the highest in the league through the opening games, and they haven’t been particularly effective on the offensive glass. That’s a bad combination against a Timberwolves team that has been collecting rebounds like they’re free. Cleveland does have a strong interior defense, though, and its shot-blocking has been a bright spot. The Cavaliers need to make Minnesota finish possessions with one shot, not two or three. If they can do that, the schedule advantage starts to look a lot more important.

Donovan Mitchell has been doing his share of the scoring, including 32 points against Philadelphia. Cleveland also needs Jarrett Allen available and effective inside. Allen has been dealing with patellar tendinopathy, and his status deserves attention because of Minnesota’s rebounding strength. Nae’Qwan Tomlin is out with a back injury, while Khalifa Diop has been dealing with a knee problem. Cleveland isn’t completely healthy, but the Cavaliers have had a day off since beating Brooklyn. Minnesota won’t have that luxury. I’d expect Cleveland to come out looking to make this a physical game rather than letting the Timberwolves get comfortable.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Cleveland Cavaliers Picks and Predictions

Cleveland Cavaliers -3.5 or Better

I don’t particularly enjoy betting against a team that’s won its first two games by 47 combined points. Minnesota has been terrific. But this is a difficult scheduling spot, and Cleveland is capable of playing much better than it did during those late collapses against Philadelphia and Brooklyn. The Cavaliers have the home floor and an extra day of rest. They also have enough size to challenge Minnesota inside, provided Allen is available. The Timberwolves could absolutely win if they keep dominating the offensive glass, and I’d be careful if Sunday’s game against Toronto turns into a blowout that lets Minnesota rest its starters. Still, at Cleveland -3.5 or better, I’ll take the home team.

Over 222.5 or Lower

I’ll take the over if the number is 222.5 or lower. Cleveland has scored 106 and 125, while Minnesota put up 131 and 115 in its first two games. The Cavaliers have also had some ugly defensive stretches, including that 41-point fourth quarter against Brooklyn. Minnesota’s rebounding could create plenty of second-chance points, and Cleveland should be able to score more than Orlando managed against the Timberwolves. The concern is Minnesota being tired and slowing the pace. That’s why I don’t want to chase a total into the 230s. But at 222.5, I think there’s enough room for both teams to get into the 110s.

Final Picks: Cleveland Cavaliers -3.5 or better and Over 222.5 or lower
