St. Francis (PA) Preview

The Red Flash start a new era with McConnell taking over as head coach and guiding the program through its last Division I season. The team was picked seventh in the NEC preseason poll but embraces its underdog identity after last year’s surprise conference title run. Senior guard Chris Moncrief returns as a proven leader and clutch performer, while forward Gestin Liberis and guard Victor Payne bring experience from that championship roster.

St. Francis added several transfers to replenish a roster that returns little of last season’s scoring. Zion Russell, a transfer from Niagara, is expected to be an immediate contributor in the backcourt, while Ahmad Harrison and Cam Tweedy provide versatility on the wing. Porter Moser’s Sooners return a strong mix of veteran presence and fresh talent as they transition into their fourth year under his leadership. After a 20–14 season and NCAA Tournament appearance, Oklahoma reloaded with transfers Nijel Pack from Miami and Tae Davis from Notre Dame. Sophomore guard Dayton Forsythe and forward Mohamed Wague provide experience, while Saint Joseph’s transfer Xzayvier Brown strengthens the roster with talent at both ends.

Moser’s system relies on unselfish ball movement and spacing, and this roster appears capable of scoring in multiple ways. The addition of Pack, one of the country’s top perimeter shooters, should elevate an offense that is already ranked among the SEC’s most efficient. Defensively, Oklahoma looks to improve rebounding and rim protection after inconsistent stretches last year. At home against a rebuilding NEC team, the Sooners hold advantages in experience, depth, and athleticism.

Oklahoma’s superior talent, size, and backcourt skill create a clear advantage in this matchup. St. Francis may compete early behind Moncrief’s leadership, but the Sooners’ depth and transition play will overwhelm the Red Flash by halftime.
