The Saturday college football schedule will kickoff with a battle between the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the West Virginia Mountaineers from Milan Puskar Stadium. West Virginia Preview
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez’s return to Morgantown was not an immediate success and he overhauled the roster by adding 83 new players. The Mountaineers (4-8) won just two Big 12 Conference games and finished near the bottom of the conference in total offense. Sophomore transfer QB Michael Hawkins comes over from Oklahoma and will hand the ball off to Jacksonville State RB Cam Cook (1,659 rush yds, 16 TDs). The offensive line will be improved and this offensive will be more explosive.
After giving up a shade over 30 points per game in 2025, the Mountaineers have plenty to prove on the defensive side of the ball. The defense returns just one of their top 17 tacklers and there are plenty of questions in the secondary. West Virginia’s offense is oftentimes the biggest enemy of their defense and left them out on the field for 35 minutes a game on average.
