The Florida International Panthers (FIU) visit the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET at Houchens Industries–L.T. Smith Stadium. The game will air on ESPNU. Florida International is 2–3 overall and 0–1 in Conference USA after a 51–10 loss at UConn. Western Kentucky is 5–1 and 3–0 in CUSA play after a 27–24 win at Delaware. FIU Preview

The FIU offense is led by quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who has 775 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while completing 63% of his passes. Running back Kejon Owens leads the running attack with 463 yards and 5 touchdowns on 76 carries. The passing game has been below average, with Alex Perry leading the team in receiving at 194 yards and 2 scores.

Pass protection has been a problem for the Panthers, with FIU allowing 11 sacks through five games. Linebacker Johnny Chaney Jr. has led the defense with 42 tackles, and lineman Keegan Davis has 3 sacks. FIU will need to control the clock with runs from Owens and protect Jenkins to have any chance of staying in this game.

Western Kentucky Preview

Quarterback Maverick McIvor has 1,704 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on 68% passing. His top targets are Matthew Henry with 377 yards and 3 touchdowns, and K.D. Hutchinson with 304 yards and 3 scores. Running back La’Vell Wright adds 203 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Western Kentucky’s defense has forced turnovers and limited mistakes on defense. Defensive back Jaylen Lewis has 2 interceptions, and the front seven has combined for 6 sacks. The Hilltoppers have allowed only 9 sacks on offense and have stayed consistent with long drives that finish with touchdowns or field goals. Kicker John Cannon has made 9 of 10 field goals with a long of 49. If Western Kentucky keeps McIvor protected and avoids turnovers, the Hilltoppers should win business at home.

Florida International vs Western Kentucky Prediction

Western Kentucky has played better on both sides of the ball and has had better play from its quarterback. FIU’s running game will have a few solid drives, but Western Kentucky’s passing and red-zone success will make the difference. Final Score Prediction: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers win and cover 37–23.
