Key Player - Gio Lopez, North Carolina

Quarterback Gio Lopez has thrown for 430 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. His short passing has kept drives alive, but poor protection has limited big plays. Running back Demon June has added 266 yards on the ground, giving the offense its best spark. If Lopez can stay mistake-free and use June early on the ground, North Carolina can move the ball better than in recent weeks.

His connection with Trond Grizzell (400 yards receiving) has stretched defenses, and Kendrick Raphael’s 414 rushing yards keep defenses honest. Cal has been most effective when the run sets up short throws as well as passes over the middle.
