Northwestern vs Oregon Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Northwestern is 6-1, just beat Rutgers by 28, and now the Wildcats are getting points against an Oregon team that just lost at Illinois. Somebody explain that one over another beer. I understand Autzen Stadium is a tough place to play, and Oregon has more talent than its record suggests. But the Ducks have been struggling to score against good defenses, and Northwestern has been playing excellent football. If you’re asking me to lay points with Oregon right now, you’re going to have to make a better argument than home field. Northwestern visits Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on Peacock. Oregon opened as a 7.5-point favorite, but the line has moved toward -4, with the total around 51.5. An early forecast calls for temperatures near 49 degrees, very light winds, and a modest chance of rain. That’s a little chilly, but nothing unusual for Eugene. Check the rain forecast before kickoff.
Northwestern Has Been Playing Like a Contender
Northwestern is 6-1 overall after beating Rutgers 42-14 on Saturday. The Wildcats have won four straight since losing 29-23 at Indiana, and they’ve been doing it with a balanced offense and a defense that’s getting better. Northwestern beat Penn State 34-13, Ball State 45-14, Michigan State 24-21, and Rutgers 42-14 during that stretch. That’s a pretty good collection of results. The Wildcats aren’t sneaking past everybody. They’re winning convincingly when they get the opportunity.
Northwestern has produced 1,398 passing yards and 1,149 rushing yards through seven games. That’s 364 yards of offense per contest, and the balance is important. The Wildcats average 4.85 yards per rush, which gives them a reliable way to stay ahead of the chains. Oregon has struggled offensively in recent weeks, and Northwestern should be able to make the Ducks work defensively as well. The Wildcats have also been extremely careful with the football, throwing no interceptions in their first seven games. That’s a major advantage against a team that’s been having trouble creating separation on the scoreboard.

The defense has been the biggest improvement. Northwestern held Rutgers to 14, Penn State to 13, and Colorado to seven earlier in the season. Indiana scored 29, but that’s been one of the Wildcats’ few defensive disappointments. Oregon has scored 17, 15, and ten in three of its last four games, so this is a matchup Northwestern should feel good about. The Wildcats need to tackle well and avoid giving Oregon easy explosive plays. If they can keep the Ducks under 25 points, they’ve got an excellent chance to win outright.
Oregon Has to Find Its Offense Again
Oregon is 4-3 after losing 21-10 at Illinois on Saturday. That’s two losses in three games, and the Ducks have scored only 42 points across those three contests. They lost 17-15 to UCLA, beat Nebraska 17-14, and then managed ten against Illinois. That’s not the Oregon offense people are accustomed to seeing. The Ducks have been capable of big performances, including a 41-point game at USC earlier in the season, but they haven’t been able to sustain that level against better defenses.
Oregon has thrown for 1,698 yards and rushed for 838 through seven games. The passing game has been more productive than the running attack, but the Ducks have struggled to finish drives recently. They’re averaging 4.11 yards per rush, which isn’t terrible, but it’s well behind Northwestern’s 4.85. The Wildcats have also been better at protecting the football. Oregon has thrown three interceptions, and those mistakes can be costly in a game where the offense is already struggling. The Ducks need to establish their running game and avoid putting too much pressure on the passing attack.
The home field is Oregon’s biggest advantage. Autzen Stadium can be a miserable place for visiting teams, and Northwestern hasn’t faced an environment quite like it this season. The Ducks also have enough defensive ability to keep this close, even if the offense continues to struggle. But Oregon has been a poor betting team, covering only two of its first seven games. Northwestern has covered five of seven. Those numbers don’t guarantee anything, but they reflect the difference between a team exceeding expectations and one that’s been disappointing. Oregon needs to play much better than it did at Illinois to justify being favored.
Northwestern vs Oregon Picks and Predictions
Northwestern +4
I’ll take Northwestern getting four points, and I think the Wildcats have a legitimate chance to win outright. Oregon has the home field and more highly regarded talent, but the Ducks just scored ten against Illinois and haven’t reached 18 points in three of their last four games. Northwestern has won four straight and is coming off a 42-point performance. The Wildcats have also been much better protecting the football, which matters in a close game. The danger is Oregon finally finding its offense at home and overwhelming Northwestern with explosive plays. That’s possible. But I think the Wildcats are the more dependable team right now, and I’ll gladly take the points.
Under 51.5
I’m going Under 51.5. Oregon has scored 17, 15, and ten in three of its last four games, and Northwestern’s defense has been excellent. The Wildcats can score, but they also have a productive running game that can shorten possessions and control the clock. Oregon’s defense should be good enough to prevent Northwestern from putting up another 42. The risk is a couple of turnovers or special-teams plays creating easy touchdowns. But I expect this to be a physical Big Ten game rather than a wide-open shootout. Something around 24-20 Northwestern makes sense.
Final Picks: Northwestern +4 and Under 51.5
