Buffalo Sabres vs San Jose Sharks Picks and Predictions for Tuesday October 27 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/27/2026, 01:00 AM ET

San Jose has six wins. Buffalo has four. That’s not how a lot of people expected these teams to look at the end of October. The Sharks have been more competitive, while the Sabres have been giving up goals at an uncomfortable rate. At home, San Jose deserves a serious look.

Buffalo visits SAP Center in San Jose on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Puck drop is 10:30 PM ET on ESPN. My targets are San Jose moneyline -125 or better and Over 5.5 goals. Get in the action with our free NHL picks.

Buffalo Needs to Tighten Things Up

The Sabres are 4-4-3, with 31 goals scored and 41 allowed. That’s 2.82 goals per game offensively and 3.73 against. That defensive number is a problem.

Buffalo has been able to score, but too often it has needed four or five goals just to feel comfortable. That’s not a sustainable way to win consistently.

The Sabres need cleaner coverage in front of their net and fewer turnovers on zone exits. San Jose has enough offensive confidence to punish mistakes, particularly with the home crowd behind it.

San Jose Has Been More Competitive

The Sharks are 6-5-1 with 13 points. That’s a respectable start, especially compared with Vancouver and Los Angeles in the same division.

San Jose has been finding ways to stay in games and create enough offense to win. Against Buffalo’s defense, the Sharks should have opportunities to generate quality scoring chances.

The concern is defensive consistency. San Jose isn’t a team I’d blindly trust at a heavy favorite price. Buffalo can score enough to make this a tight game if the Sharks become careless with the puck.

Buffalo Sabres vs San Jose Sharks Picks and Predictions

San Jose Sharks Moneyline — Target -125 or Better

I’ll take San Jose at a manageable price. Buffalo is allowing nearly four goals per game, and that’s too much for me to ignore. The Sharks have the better early record and home ice. The concern is Buffalo’s ability to score in bunches, but I like San Jose to make fewer mistakes.

Over 5.5 Goals — Target

I’m taking Over 5.5. Buffalo’s games have featured plenty of goals against, and the Sabres have enough offense to contribute. San Jose should generate chances against a defense allowing 3.73 per contest. Strong goaltending could spoil the play, but a 4-3 Sharks victory is my lean.

Final Picks: San Jose moneyline (-125 or better) and Over 5.5 goals

Preview prepared October 26, 2026.
