Astros Playoff Chances at 65% on Polymarket Live Odds
The Houston Astros have moved into a much stronger position in the American League playoff race, and the prediction market has followed.
Polymarket currently gives Houston approximately a 65% chance to reach the 2026 MLB postseason as the Astros hold first place in the AL West entering Wednesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox.
That represents a major shift from roughly one week ago, when Houston was sitting around 44% on the same postseason market.
Unlike a traditional sportsbook, Polymarket does not set fixed odds itself. Traders buy and sell contracts, with the market price moving as new information, standings changes and results alter expectations.

Astros Playoff Chances Reach 65% on Polymarket
Houston's current postseason probability of approximately 65% makes the Astros one of the strongest remaining contenders among teams that have not effectively locked up a playoff position.
The movement is especially notable because Houston was closer to a coin flip only a week ago.
A previous Polymarket snapshot had the Astros at approximately 44% while Texas, Seattle, Cleveland and Toronto were all packed into the same general American League playoff race.
Houston has since created more separation.
The Astros enter Wednesday at 70-69 and remain in first place in the AL West. Texas fell to 69-71 after a 9-2 loss to the Athletics earlier Wednesday, giving Houston additional breathing room before its night game against Chicago.
Seattle remains alive after beating Boston 8-3 Wednesday afternoon, but the Mariners are still below .500 and several games behind Houston in the division.
Why Have Houston's Playoff Chances Climbed?
The biggest reason for the movement is simple: Houston controls the division entering the final month.
The Astros do not need to chase a Wild Card position if they can hold the AL West lead. That creates a cleaner postseason path than the one facing teams such as Seattle, Toronto and Baltimore, which may need to pass multiple clubs to qualify.
Houston has also recovered from a difficult beginning to the season.
The Astros opened the year slowly but have played substantially better baseball since late May, putting themselves back on top of a division that has remained competitive without producing a dominant team.
That lack of separation is important.
Houston is only modestly above .500, but neither Texas nor Seattle has taken advantage enough to establish control of the West. Every Rangers loss therefore increases the value of simply holding first place.
Wednesday's Texas result was another example.
The Rangers opened a 2-0 lead against Oakland before allowing nine unanswered runs in a 9-2 defeat. Texas dropped to 69-71, leaving Houston with an opportunity to increase its division advantage Wednesday night.
What Could Move Astros Playoff Odds Next?
The AL West race remains close enough that Houston's 65% probability can still move quickly.
A strong Astros homestand would push the market closer toward Houston becoming a clear postseason favorite, especially if Texas continues losing ground.
Seattle is another team to monitor.
The Mariners improved to 66-74 after Wednesday's win over Boston, but they remain well behind Houston and need a sustained September run to become a serious threat again.
The Astros also have their own concerns.
Houston's offense has been inconsistent, and the pitching staff has carried a significant workload during the playoff push. Those issues leave room for another swing if the Astros go through an extended losing stretch.

Will the Astros Make the 2026 MLB Playoffs?
Houston has not separated completely from the rest of the AL West, but the Astros are in a significantly stronger position than they were one week ago.
They currently control first place in the division, Texas has slipped below .500, and Seattle still has considerable ground to recover.
That combination has pushed Houston's Polymarket postseason probability from roughly 44% into the mid-60s.
Current Astros playoff chance: approximately 65% on Polymarket.
